Finding A Guide For Lake Cumberland Striper Fishing

By Juliette Clemons

If you are looking for a great place to go fishing and you do not like going out to sea, then why not try some on the beautiful stretch of water in south eastern Kentucky known as Lake Cumberland. For some great recreational activity, Lake Cumberland striper fishing is something worth checking out.

If you have not heard of this kind of sport before and are a new comer to it, it is trying to catch a striped bass which is also known by a few other names such as Atlantic striped bass, linesiders, pimpfish and one or two others.

Their body is colored silver with darkish stripes which run from behind the gills to just on the tail section. Their life span is said to be about thirty years and they can weight very heavy for a fish, up to around one hundred and twenty pounds and can grow to a length of about six and a half feet. You will probably not catch this size in any reservoir.

They are a fish that lives in the sea but returns to spawn in fresh water lakes and rivers. Some have been introduced into the reservoirs as a recreational fish and to control another herring fish which is of little value, the Gizzard Shad.

To fish on the reservoir you will need to have a boat, some fishing gear, such as a rod, and the other things that go with it. You will also need to have the right bait and know the rules and regulation which cover the size limit which helps to stop overfishing of the species.

If you hire a guide these people will probably have all the information that is required on the ways to fish this species, where is the best place to find them and they should also have the fishing gear if you do not have that as well as the bait you will need. And best of all if you do not have a boat they will have one of these as well.

If you are interested in following up on this sport and would like to get in touch with one of these guides, then there are websites on the internet where you will find the information to contact them. If you like fishing then going to the area of south eastern Kentucky may be a great place for some really good recreation.
