Fishing Tournaments For The Ladies In Texas

By James Harden

With a population of under 8000, Rockport Texas offers intimacy and charisma that some other communities across the Lone Star State's Gulf Coast can't. In addition to Rockport beach bed and breakfasts plus other varieties of romantic travel inns for lodging choices, this beach town is also home to three major annual deep-sea fishing tournaments - two of which are exclusive.

As soon as the fisherman has reserved beach rental accommodations for the duration (alongside beachfront that has been recognized as being among the cleanest and best-maintained around the united states), there are a variety of exceptional deep-sea fishing charter services to select from. The place to check out is the Allegro Marina, where captains tie up their seacraft while not in use; this is where you can contact any number of charter services, every one owned by an experienced mariner who's informed about the Gulf waters where the large fish run. Shark, mahi-mahi as well as sail and billfish are generally in ample supply over the fishing season, which runs from May through October.

First things first, however; it really is a good idea to reserve your Texas beach rentals well ahead of time, particularly during the tournaments, which are held in May and July. Expect to pay extra for Texas vacation rentals during these times of year, because such beach rentals tend to get snapped up quickly.

As for the fishing tournaments: two of those, held every year in mid-May and mid-July, are actually geared toward the female angler - and so there are plenty in and around Rockport. The very first of these, "Babes on the Bay," takes place over the second or third weekend in May. The second one, referred to as B.O.S.S., or "Babes OffShore Spectacular," will be held on the second or third weekend in July. However, neither of those get quite as much attention as the Rockport Offshore Challenge, also held in July. This is one of the Gulf Coast's leading deep-sea fishing events; discover more at http://www.keyallegromarina.com/fishingtournaments.html.

For non-competition ocean angling trips at different times, the price is generally around $75 - $150 for each person for half-days and therefore around $250 - $300 per person for full days (determined by six to eight individuals per boat). Most of the regional fishing charters include bait plus tackle in their fees; conversely, you'll want to bring any food and drink for the trip.

Beyond angling, Rockport presents a great deal, for example abundant examples of Victorian-Era structure; the historic Heritage District offering its distinctive boutiques and cafes. In neighboring Fulton is the preserved manor named for the town's founder, George Fulton. Built in the Second Empire technique that was common following the American Civil War, the Fulton Mansion is now open for the public as a museum and provides some of what was considered cutting-edge machinery belonging to the 1870s.

Individuals fascinated with nature will want to check out the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge found only a couple of miles away, along with the Connie Hagar Sanctuary and Aransas Woods.

Cash Or Finance For Your Fishing Boat

By Mike Relahs

Before you take the boat buying plunge let me clue you in on two of the most widely spoken quotes in the boating world. "The happiest day of a boat owner's life is the day they buy the boat and the day they sell the boat" and "Boats are nothing more than holes in the water, into which you throw money."

Before you go out and purchase your fishing boat, remember that boating is a hobby and you shouldn't go overboard with it. Unlike your house, boating isn't really worth going into debt for. First time buyers who aren't sure about boating should always make sure they spend well within their budget.

Also consider these optional items, depending on your water sports preferences: water skis, wakeboards, wet suits, towables (tubes), tow ropes and gloves, weight system for wakeboarding, pylon, boom, tower, etc.

To get the most out of your boat, it's always a good to scrape up your recreational dollars, sell a few of your belongings, and simply save up for a while. In the meantime, you should carefully shop the boating market. After you save up 3,500 - 25,000 dollars, go ahead and buy the boat you want.

Whatever you do, make sure you don't spend all of your money on the just the boat itself. When you purchase the boat, you'll need to have enough money for taxes, registration, storage, towing insurance, gas, equipment, and even minor repairs if your boat requires them.

When buying a boat, used or new, cash is always better than financing. You can save money with cash, as there are no finance charges. Financing charges can get high, very high in fact if you don't know a lot about it.

If you must finance your purchase, it's a smart idea to use a home equity loan instead of a personal loan. This way, it'll be tax deductible. Always be on the lookout for boat show financing, and never, ever use it. Several boat show financing ploys will extend the loan out over the course of 10 - 15 years.

A new boater will either advance with boating or get out of it all together. Most boaters don't keep their boat for more than 10 years, which is reason enough not to get an extended finance loan on your boat.

Enjoy Small Town Charm On your Next Angling Getaway

By James Harden

Angling of every kind across the Texas Gulf Coast is famous - and Port O'Connor Texas fishing is still better. One has simply to drop a line off a pier or cast it into the waves from outside his Texas beach rental to reel in some of the very best catches to be had in the region. The fish run all year, but the price of a getaway rental will be substantially lower throughout the late fall and winter months.

Of course, beach homes just like Port O'Connor beach cabin rentals and Texas bed breakfast operations signify only a few of your choices; you can find luxurious hotels and RV parks located in the area too, all convenient to the local fishing locations. It is of course a great idea to reserve your rentals well in advance in an effort to avoid disappointment, as the part of the Gulf Coast attracts more visitors within the spring and summer than every other part of the state. You'll also get better rates on lodgings over the fall and winter months, at what time the weather is going to be more moderate.

POC (as the locals term it) and the surrounding area provides a variety of fishing experiences. Lying near to and with easy access to the Gulf of Mexico via Pass Cavallo, red snapper, ling cod, jack mackerel and trout are effortlessly obtained from atop the community's fishing pier or any of the local beaches. Farther out to sea, sailfish, marlin, tuna, mahimahi and wahu are plentiful.

The charge to charter a deep-sea fishing outing varies according to the size of the boat and other variables, but generally average approximately $500 for a half-day trip and $1000 for a full eight-hour day. Most charter boats will generally accommodate six to eight anglers, which can bring the individual outlay down a great deal. Bait and tackle is normally provided, but fishermen will need to bring their own food and drink for the day.

An alternative to the deep sea charter ship is to make your way out to one of the several abandoned oil-drilling platforms that remain offshore. Many of these are situated within five miles of the coast and offer exceptional fishing for kingfish, red snapper and mahimahi. It is advisable however to go with someone who's familiar with these abandoned rigs, as they can pose a certain amount of hazard to the inexperienced.

Individuals content to remain closer to land won't be disappointed, however; a big number of undeveloped estuaries, lakes, streams and of course rivers offer excellent fly fishing possibilities in addition to shrimping. Saltwater fishing can still be enjoyed from shore even as the water gets choppy, thanks to the various protected hot spots within the area, including Espiritu Santo Bay and a number of other jetties that have been constructed around POC for this purpose.

Fishermen with a competitive trait are going to be happy to find out that during the summer months, fishing tournaments are held around the region almost every weekend.

Go To Lake Cumberland Striper Fishing Contest

By Carissa Thompson

Many vacationers enjoy the water sports while the avid fisherman goes to win the trophy for the biggest catch. Lake Cumberland striper fishing and trophy event brings many fishermen to the area to participate in tournaments. The biggest catch in Kentucky weighed in at nearly sixty pounds. That record has yet to be broken.

Lake Cumberland is known to be the largest man made lake in the entire world and attracts more visitors each year than Yellow Stone National Park. The sparkling blue green waters spread between a 1,1200 mile shore line and within the 63,000 acres is some of the most beautiful scenery seen anywhere else in the world.

The lake, known as the houseboat capitol of the world, has pontoon boat rental facilities, a huge marina and scores of boat slips. The southern Kentucky lake area is the ideal place to visit for a family vacation, and in fact has more visitors each year than Yellow Stone National Park.

Kentucky fishing licenses are required to fish on Cumberland. They can be bought at any bait shop in the area, or ordered online from many of the Cumberland lake web sites. There is also a Sunday night radio broadcast that tells of weather conditions, water levels and which fish are running.

Guides with well equipped boats are available to assist the novice fisherman. Prices for guides are posted on lake websites. Many men who devote their skills as guides to novice and experienced fishermen have over twenty years fishing experience. They are familiar with the waters and know where the fish are playing on any given day. The guides specialty is striper fishing and host scores of how to catch ideas.

Live shad is the best bait to use when fishing for striper bass in the fresh water lake. However, without proper tanks to store the shad they die quickly and are no longer useable. It is important to keep them in a bait tank that has an aerator and filter system.

Shad fish are claimed to be the best bait to use to catch the striper. Shad are not good without after catching they are placed in a bait tank that is equipped with an aerator and filter system. The fish die within an hour after being caught if they are not in a tank. A minnow bucket or that of sorts will not suffice the needs of the shad.

Late August through October the bass are migrating and come out to the points. Lake Cumberland striper fishing is worthy during this particular time. When fishing on the points live crawfish is the best bait to use. During the fall months stripers come to the surface to catch minnows and shad. There are plenty of striper bass in the lake throughout the seasons. After an exciting day of fishing relaxing at the rustic lodge may seem inviting. The lodge is fully equipped with all the amenities of home.

Why Igloo Marine Coolers Make Life More Fun

By Chaz Sheraton

For a super powerful cooler, you can't surpass the Igloo marine coolers. Igloo's Marine Series coolers are regarded as the best in class for marine ice chests. They have all the features fishermen want most, including a white color with UV inhibitors to withstand prolonged exposure to sun, sand and surf. They range from the very small, lightweight ones to the extremely large ones that can hold almost almost 200 cans plus ice, and keep it for several days. You won't have to have anything else for keeping things cold on the go.

The extremely large models are ideal for extra seating arrangements. They can hold the weight of a couple of grown men with no problem. Even the smaller sizes can handle a single individual. They make excellent row seats as well as comfortable seating for leisure in the boat. Cushions are made for each size. They are very comfortable, especially the larger ones.

There are many characteristics that make these coolers a great addition to your fun activities. You can measure the length of any fish you catch with the molded-in ruler. Larger models allow a two liter bottle to stand upright, avoiding messes from spilling. You know how the pressure builds and even tightly sealed bottles can leak when stored on their side.

All models come with fold-up handles for ease of carrying, and have tie down loops. You can order separate tie down kits that attach to your boat and have straps to run through the handle and securely tie down it and any cargo stored on top. There will be no danger of loss with this system. This makes it very convenient for rough waters.

The UV inhibitors that is in the material it is made of means the cooler can bear up under long exposures to sun without deteriorating. This is important for any used in boats and around water and sun. This means longer life and not having to go through replacements so often.

The prices are very reasonable. Even the very largest, with the most features, prices are still very reasonable. The smaller, though built much better than most, are still well within their price range. This makes them a very good buy. The smaller ones still have most of the features of the larger, pricier ones. The main difference is, of course, their capacity, plus they don't have the seating cushions available.

Most models have extra features that make them even more valuable. For example, some of the large ones have smooth rolling wheels that aid in transporting that heavy load they carry. Lids of all models are foam-filled for extra cooling capability. The thick insulation between the two shell layers mean items will stay cold for days. Even ice won't melt. Commercial grade, marine compatible products mean long life, and stainless steel fixtures protect against rust and deterioration.

There are replacement parts such as hinges, latches, and handles. With these making it possible to repair accidents or wear to your favorite cooler, the Igloo Marine Coolers can last almost a lifetime. So, even if the initial cost is a little bit more, they are well worth it. Most coolers have to be replaced fairly often, but not these coolers. With the hardiness of their construction, and the replacement parts for repairs, they last virtually forever.

The Range On Offer To Furnish And Encourage The Newcomer Is Very Impressive

By Justine Swallow

Last night I was flicking with some disinterest through the catalogue offered by a well known High Street shop and I fell across the pages advertising fishing tackle. I was really completely stunned by some of the deals detailed on combinations of gear, mostly directed at those interested in starting fishing.

It was very different to what was offered when I was a youngster. Then, the comparable place to go to was Woolworths, to choose from the Winfield label which was, frankly, poor. They used to come apart rather fast but the good thing was that by the time they did, one was ready to get proper bait and tackle anyway, or you had decided to stop angling anyway.

I have little doubt that the bait and tackle sets that the catalogue shop have are of rather ordinary quality, which is of course perfect for the starter. Things like float sets will possibly last for a very long time and be useful for any tackle dangler needing to replace misplaced bait and tackle, but for dads or grandfathers wanting to introduce junior family members to the enjoyment of angling, these kits are perfect.

There is also a psychological benefit to be found in maintaining the keenness of the recently inspired angler, which is that, once they decide to have a go and find mates who are also keen, to go off for the canalside with a complete set of fishing tackle will gather complimentary comments all round and engender a feeling of wellbeing which will be constantly associated with fishing.

Of course there will need to be lots of fatherly teaching first in order to make certain that he or she knows how to set up the bait and tackle with some ability before letting them to set out on their own exploits. I well remember my initial trip out, which was an inter-troop angling match with the scouts. I had only been out a number of times with my uncle and ended up getting into the most terrible muddles and forsaking most of my fishing line as a result. It was most maddening as I spent almost the entire afternoon trying to unpick a parade of cats' cradles, then getting aggravated and cutting the line and beginning again.

This is not the way to hearten unsullied blood into the sport. angling can be a intricate process, and for newcomer needs to be trained how to properly setup the bait and tackle before getting out on their own.

And for this purpose, the sort of fishing tackle sets are perfect to give the desire to learn the finer details.

Is Financing A Fishing Boat Smart?

By Mike Relahs

Whatever you do, make sure you've carefully thought out what your expenses are going to be. You don't want to spend all of your money on just the boat itself. When you purchase the boat, you'll need to have enough money for taxes, registration, storage, towing insurance, gas, equipment, and even minor repairs if your boat requires them.

When buying a fishing boat, used or new, cash is always better than financing. And you can save money with cash, as there are no finance charges. Financing charges can get high, very high in fact if you don't know a lot about it.

Once you decide to buy a fishing boat, you'll find yourself wondering how you are going to pay for it. This type of purchase will involve some type of financing, whether it's a credit line through the home, an unsecured loan, or a boat line. Choosing the right financing source can be just as important as choosing the right boat.

When choosing a source of financing, there are several things to consider. The first factor is how long you plan to keep the boat. If you are buying a first boat, it'll make more sense to find a loan that will be flexible enough for an early payoff via private party or even a trade in.

If you are purchasing your dream boat, you should think about long term financing. Getting a fixed rate loan with low monthly payments will be easier on your monthly budget.

Another factor you'll need to consider is the down payment. Most lenders or dealers would like to see at least ten percent down. Zero down payments do exist for those with good enough credit. Normally, the down payment doesn't significantly change the monthly payment for your boat loan.

Choosing the right type of boat financing ia a criticle part of the buying process. Think about starting with a boat finance company ot finance broker. Finance brokers can compare each of the available loan programs and recommend the best one for your budget.

Doing this will give you the knowledge and ability you need to find the loan that best fits you and your budget. The, you can concentrate on the important things - taking your new boat out on the water.

Get Yourself Entirely Geared up For Fishing with These Angling Necessities

By Gene Pangan

Here's a small reminder for those who've got plans on fishing soon. So you have your fishing poles and fishing reels now prepared? What about other stuff like tools, things where to keep your gear and containers for putting in your lures? Go through on these to find great ideas regarding these items.

As far as hooking fish is concerned, it isn't the hook, line, fishing reel and rod that account for great catches but great lures also. In order for you to tempt in fish, you must be prepared with interesting baits that have yummy, persuading scents and appearances. Fish are also fussy, you know and that is due to the fact that the sea is full of foods for them. However, there are occasions that regardless of how good your lures are, they simply fail you to find you a bite and that is due to the insufficiency for an excellent bucket to save them. So don't underestimate the significance of a handy container to stow your baits.

If you're going to consider Amazon, you'll easily find bait buckets of all sorts and sizes from Plano, Min-02-Life, Turbo Troll, Frabill and Quick Minnow. They're the ideal ones around so if you'd like the best quality buckets for your lures, don't forget to get your hands on these. They're quite reasonably priced too so better check them out now.

Moving on, so you've eventually hauled up your catch. The next things you're going to need are some fillet knives. The length of what you are going to need relies on the proportions of the fish that you're going for. For instance, if you are determined to catch the big ones, then you may fare best by choosing longer chef's knives. On the other hand, if what you're looking for are modest-sized fish, then short cutlery can provide you with the versatility you need.

Some of the best names when it comes to high-quality fillet knives are Victorinox (the same brand that first brought you the world-famous Swiss Army pocket knife), Gerber (known for its legendary blades), Kershaw, Winchester and Zwilling. They are all available at Amazon for checking and purchasing so be sure you've taken your pick among these for cutting up the take-home package after posing for photographs with your fishing trophy.

Other things which you need to actually consider are good tackle boxes. I bet you have found yourself in the scenario where you really need something instantly but you still need to deal with locks, drawers, or what have you. When it comes to fishing, it actually pays to own everything quickly accessible so you do not mess around and allow the fish to get away. Understanding How Beneficial Electric Boat Winches Over Manual Ones

By David Borderson

Any boat lover understands the importance of electric boat winches and is likely to have used them at one point or the other in their life or career. Basically, a manual winch is a lot harder to use than the electric one. In this day and age, when most people prefer convenience items that ensure they use minimal energy in trying to get some work done; such devices as the winches come in handy.

Basically people love the electric devices due to the fact that they make work a lot easier at the docks. This is especially so when you consider the fact that these winches make the loading and unloading process a lot faster than the manual ones and with minimal use of energy.

In comparison, the manual winches usually demand that you have to exert a lot of pressure on them to make them work. For those people that have some very heavy boats, this usually means that they have to waste a lot of time before they can set off to wherever they wish to go. Apart from that, the electric winches give you the extra functionality of a free hand for steering.

It is also a good idea to always look for the device that can easily support the weight of your boat, and this includes the gear and the fuel too. A lot of people do not even consider this, yet it is one of the most important things.

Make sure you evaluate the pull ability of the device you want. The best machine must have a pull capacity of 75% or more of the combined weight of the boat, motor, fuel and gear, and will serve you a lot better than most.

There are also some specific devices that will come in handy with the inclusion of a fail-safe option to act as backup plan. This means that there is a hand crank that you can use in the event that the electric winch fails to work. This way, it becomes easier for you to keep load even if the device fails to work.

Lastly though, a lot of people never consider this at their own peril; servicing of the winch is a must. There are a lot of things that can happen in the course of your daily work which may result in terrible accidents. You have to make sure that the movable parts are well greased to avoid them grinding against each other. By doing this, your device will serve you efficiently.

A very important question to ask yourself when buying a fishing boat

By Mike Relahs

The first thing you should consider when choosing a boat is that no single boat will do everything. If your searching for a boat that inspires confidence, don't expect it to shine in light air. Boats that are exciting to pilot on the weekends aren't the ideal boats for a passage through the ocean.

You shouldn't expect quick acceleration and load carrying capacity together with the same boat. You can buy a boat to race or fish, then put around later as you can only do one or the other with a specific type of boat.

The logic to choosing the right boat is determining how you plan to use the boat. Think about why you want to own a boat, what you plan to do with it, and how you plan on using it.

For some fishermen, beauty is the first consideration. For fishing boats sleek design is very important, as you'll spend a majority of time floating and fishing, with many people looking at your fishing boat. With people looking at your vessel, you want to make sure that it looks nothing short of amazing.

If you are planning to win fishing contests instead of trolling, then speed is your primary consideration. There are many weekend anglers out there who simply can't be happy unless their boats are moving very fast. The ideal boat for speed demons are those that can cut through the water getting to their favorite holes as quick as possible.

Many fishermen on the other hand, want to look towards multi-purpose fishing boats. Trackers and other boats that are designed for fishing are ideal here. Fishing is one of the most popular boat activities, meaning that you'll have plenty of boats to select from.

When it comes down to it, selecting the right boat is up to you and what you plan to do with it. Take your time, weigh your options, and you'll have the right boat before you know it.

Minn Kota Talon Anchoring System Takes Pole Anchoring To A New Level

By Mike Relahs

Minn Kota, the respected trolling motor producer based in the mid-west (Minnesota-North Dakota), has launched a new and improved shallow water pole anchor that is a step above existing products in the class. Compared to competing products, the Minn Kota Talon anchoring system has an electro-mechanical, not hydraulic, design. This is a clear differentiator because it makes the MK product easier to install, lighter, more silent, more durable, faster to deploy or retrieve as well as giving the unit stronger anchor holding power. The Cabelas Talon anchoring system is provided with complete product warranty and guarantee.

Shallow water anglers will be familiar with pole anchors. They have been marketed for many years now. Thousands of systems have been purchased by satisfied anglers around the globe. They are a well-proven product based on a solid concept that has been tried and tested. Overall, the MK product claims superior performance compared to existing competitors.

The MK pole anchor permits anglers to silently and quickly anchor exactly where the fish are positioned, without in any way spooking them. All this can be achieved without a dirty anchor constantly messing up the interior of the boat. Bottom line, anglers can fish more efficiently.

The MK anchor product provides new capabilities not supplied with other pole anchors. Perhaps the most important new feature is the automatic Up-Down Pole control capability. This is a rapid one-touch button press action that initiates a totally automatic start-to-end deployment routine. It avoids any need to continuously hold a button until the pole anchor is fully deployed.

Retrieving or stowing the anchor is equally simple. One-touch of a button brings the anchor up. The angler can concentrate on other priorities for the handful of seconds it takes for the anchor to stow. The process is easy, simple and uncomplicated and can be operated from a fixed control panel or a pocket-sized remote wireless pad.

Importantly, the product provides a solid and secure holding power, the most powerful holding force in its class. The exclusive auto drive feature drives the pole into the bottom using a trio of successive drives. Each drive is powered by a stronger force. The aim of this three-hit process is to drive the pole deeper with more grip than any competing product.

When current and breeze strengthen, the MK product has a Rough Water mode. Using this one-touch facility, anglers can activate to repeat the three-hit drive process at ten-second intervals. This drives the pole deeper, providing an even stronger holding power.

Given its avoidance of hydraulics, Minn Kota Talon anchoring system is easier and less expensive to install. It has a minimal footprint and requires less space overall. Its versatility of movement, both vertically and front-back tilt (up to 30 degrees), allows mounting on any boat configuration without need for modifications. Leading outdoor outfitter Cabelas can supply you with trolling motors Talon anchoring system and much more.

Familiarize Yourself With The particular Illumination And Lucidity Of Binoculars

By Eugene Stanley

Whether you are a hunter, bird watcher, astronomer, or other user of binoculars, the tips in this article can help you choose the best quality binoculars for your purposes. Following are three major quality factors you should examine before buying a pair of binoculars.

To begin with, you will need to pick the magnification energy of your binoculars. The most typical magnifications vary from 7-12. More isn't automatically better, though. The larger the magnification power of your binoculars, the greater apparent the shaking of one's hands becomes. For many uses, 8x is a great magnification to select. Should you go over 10x, you should look at obtaining a tripod.

Second, you will have to select the objective diameter on your binoculars. All the other things being equal, the greater the objective diameter, the brighter the image you see through the binoculars. For the majority of uses, choose an aim diameter that is five times the magnification power.

If you are considering making use of your binoculars in low light conditions, you might want to get an even greater objective diameter, such as 8x50. Do remember that a larger objective diameter will normally boost the weight and size with the binoculars.

Thirdly, you should pay attention to the coating of the lenses on your binoculars. The coating cuts down on reflected and fragmented light inside your binoculars, and so increases, the brightness and clarity of the image. There are four terms generally used to describe the lens coating. Here they are, in order for least desirable to best: coated, multi coated, fully coated, fully multi coated.

It doesn't matter what you want to do with your binoculars, focusing on these three points when you obtain will greatly enhance your odds of having the best pair of binoculars!

How To Prepare For The Best Key West Fishing Charters

By Goldie Acevedo

It is an easy thing to get the most out of Key West fishing charters once a few simple things are understood. These things include the quality of the fish that populate the waters of the region, the nature of the laws governing the area's sport, and the types of charter boats and crews that are available.

A sport fisherman's delight

This area of the world has many exciting fish available for catching. Several species reach sizes and weights that ensure a good fight on any given day, and at any time of the year. Take the king mackerel, for example. During the winter, these fish can grow to more than eighty pounds, and are renowned for their combativeness.

Don't forget about the mighty marlin either. With many weighing in at two thousand pounds or better and lengths of twelve feet, they are truly a fighting man's supreme conquest. Fishermen charter boats throughout the spring and into the summer just for the opportunity to meet these fish one-on-one.

The sailfish provides another interesting challenge from November until June. With their ability to soar majestically through the air, these one-hundred pound fish are among the fastest sporting fish in the water. As agile as they are entertaining, they will provide hours of enjoyment for any sporting man.

Know the laws

To truly enjoy everything that the region offers, it is critical that visiting fishermen familiarize themselves with the area's laws. A few moments spent studying the open season dates for various species as well as size, weight, and catch limitations can help to make any chartering experience a smooth one. Best of all, it will help to ensure that what should be a sporting outing does not turn into a brush with law enforcement.

Choosing the boat and crew

Having the right charter boat is a must, and the personnel that man that boat can make all the difference in the world. As a general rule, it is important to find a crew that shares the party's sensibilities. Fun-loving groups of fishermen should strive to locate a crew that is amenable to that atmosphere. Of course, boats should have the proper legal papers, and the crew needs to have at least some level of experience with deep sea sports fishing.

In addition, any group of fishermen should ensure that they are all in agreement about the reason for the trip. When half of the party wants to catch fish and the other wants merely to drink and party, it can make for a very disruptive outing. On the other hand, a unified party that is well-prepared for the obstacles ahead will find that Key West fishing charters are always an entertaining and memorable experience.

When You Are Going Coastal Fishing In North Carolina

By Mike Relahs

North Caroline is world renowned for its stunning beauty and expansive coastline. The combination of rivers, bays, islands and ocean shores provide avid fishermen with an innumerable amount of prime fishing areas. Going coastal fishing in North Carolina for your next family vacation is a great way to learn about a new activity, and a new culture.

If you are new to fishing and do not own a boat on the North Carolina shoreline, you can rent a charter boat. Anyone from beginners to expert fisherman can rent a fully-equipped charter boat to take out for a day of fishing with the family.

Because of the Gulf Stream integration into the ocean several miles from the coast, you will find a plethora of lively Mahi Mahi, Marlin and Trout while offshore fishing. The more fish in the water means your chances of catching a fish are much higher.

Just think, you could start your day by heading out on a charter boat before sunrise, and end it by grilling up the fish you and your family caught during your inshore fishing trip. Inshore fishing is fun for beginners because the calm, protected waters make fishing a little bit easier and a little more fruitful as well. You can catch flounder, redfish, or even trout!

Keep informed and up to date on the movement patterns of specific schools of fish. There are a variety of sources online and on TV that will give you a better idea of where you should be fishing to have the best possibility of catching the perfect fish.

Another way of increasing your chances of coming home with a winner is by taking an experienced fisherman along with you on your charter boat to help you with a few tips here and there. Having someone who knows the patterns fish follow, the types of bait they like, and the depth at which they swim, can greatly increase your probability of success.

Lastly, fishing is a sport that requires patience. You cannot head out on a boat with the same "go and get them" attitude that you take to the rugby field. Of course, once you feel a bite, you have really got to let them have it because fish can be strong and very stubborn.

For those who just want to spend a day with their family, coastal fishing in North Carolina, without the extravagance of heading out on a charter boat, pier fishing is the perfect activity.

Finally It Seems As If The Nicer Weather Is On The Way From The Signs In The Ground Today

By Jon Izzard

Say it gently and warily - Spring may be taking it's boots off! I dropped my son to nursery this morning and in the flowerbeds along the road there were definitely crocuses in flower. Also, daffodils seem to be pushing their way into the fresh air as well as the bluebells at the bottom of my front garden. It's so , at last after the grinding foulness of winter since xmas, it appears as as if there is an excuse to be cheerful. And, more to the point, the time that I go back to the waterside and go fishing may actually be here.

I've never been ashamed to point out that I'm, and always was, a fair-weather maggot drowner. And particularly as I haven't been fishing in a very long time, having got the urge to resume there was no possibility I was going to head out for an experimental visit when I would have had to wrap up like Ernest Shackleton and scare myself forever. Also, I wouldn't have wanted to shell out much money on bait and tackle if I wasn't sure that I was going to make a fair fist of it first.

It'd make sense for me to head out to the waterside with a mate, go halves on bait and tackle and I hope be permitted to use a guest ticket before I shell out on joining the Birmingham Angling Association which is what is required to be qualified to go angling on the canals around here, as well as the rod licence that I will require from the Department of Environment. The 2 of those will be the wrong side of 50 before anything else, so I have to be sure that I will still be able to enjoy it.

A thing I am going to enjoy is dawdling about bait and tackle outlets. I adore small, local, dedicated shops who have the local expertise, who can guide intelligently from first hand knowledge and be the primary source of news about angling in the area regarding what is being caught and where.

So, if it is true that Spring is practically with us (and it is a marvellous clear day today too) then I need to do what I have been promising myself for ages, arrange a trip with my chum, get to the fishing shop and go angling.

Personal Flotation Devices Required for Boaters

By Kristen Wesch

Safety should be on the top of every boaters' checklist before heading out for a day of fun on the water. The United States Coast Guard sets minimum standards for safety equipment required to be on board all recreational boats. The personal flotation devices on board must be USCG approved and in good, serviceable condition in order to meet federal regulations.

By law, all recreational boats are required to have a minimum of 2 personal flotation devices on board at all times. If more than one person is on the boat, a PFD is required for each additional passenger. Further, all vessels over 16 feet in length, except canoes and kayaks, must have at least one throwable device on board and immediately accessible.

All PFD's must be readily accessible to all passengers at all times. They should never be stored in closed or locked compartments, or underneath other equipment. Although not required by law, it is advisable to wear PFD's at all times while the vessel is underway. The four types of wearable PFD's are as follows:

An off-shore jacket, or Type I PFD, is designed for use in all waters. It has the highest buoyancy rating which makes it preferable for use in open, or rough waters, especially off-shore, where rescue may be substantially delayed. It is designed with a turning feature that will keep the wearer face-up in the water even if they are unconscious. It comes in 22 pound buoyancy for adults and 11 pound buoyancy for children.

A near-shore jacket, or Type II PFD, is more suited for use in calm, inland waters. It has a turning feature as well, but is not as effective as a Type I, which means it may not work for every wearer. it is available in 15.5 pounds buoyancy for adults, 11 for children and an additional size, 7 pounds buoyancy for small children and infants.

A flotation aid, or a Type III PFD, is also intended for use in calm, inland waters where rescue is available quickly. It does not have the turning feature like the Type I and II, but is more comfortable for continuous wear. It comes with the same buoyancy ratings as the Type II and is available in many different styles, colors and sizes.

A Type V PFD is a special use PFD intended for specific activities. It is the least bulky and contains a small amount of buoyancy and an inflatable chamber. Some Type V PFD's are able to provide protection against hypothermia as well.

Lastly, the Type IV PFD is a throwable device. There must be at least one on every vessel over 16 feet in length and it must be visible and accessible at all times. It is designed to be thrown to a person in the water and held until help arrives. It is not designed to be worn, and is intended for use in high-traffic, calm waters where help is quickly and readily available.

Beginners Guide To Fishing Tackle

By Lawson Q. Miles

The sport of fishing sees new people coming into the field all the time. Who knows what attracts a person to fishing, especially Bass fishing. However, every year, numerous people go out and buy their first fishing equipment in hopes of landing a Largemouth Bass.

If you discover yourself in this situation, then I'm here to share some fishing tackle tips you'll want to follow before running out and buying every piece of glittery fishing tackle that catches your eye. Discovering how to become a successful fisherman is not complicated or time consuming.

Fist off, get the notion that fishing gear has to be expensive or complicated to catch fish out of your head. Remember, fish are predators. They're not overly smart and anything that resembles a baitfish gets put on their menu. This point was drove home early in my fishing career. Me and a buddy had been out Bass fishing on our local lake. We hadn't had much success. Back at the boat ramp, an Old Man and a young kid came motoring up. They each had a stringer full of Black Bass.

When they got out, they had a huge stringer of Black Bass. The biggest one was 6 and a half pounds and none were under 2 pounds. I walked over and asked the Old Man what they had used, seeing how my Buddy and I were skunked that morning and we had been using the latest equipment and lures on the Market. The Old Man smiled and showed me his Minnow bucket and said "Why we were using Bass Minnows and Worms"! I also couldn't keep from noticing their very simple rod and reels. They had out fished a couple local Pro's with simple bait and rod and reel set-ups!

The Zebco 33 has probably caught more Bass and other fish than any other reel in history. It's a spincast reel and you can find these matched with rods at your local Wal-Mart. I would start out with a spincast reel as they are by far the easiest to use. Level wind reels take a lot of time and experience to master. You want to spend your time fishing, not untangling a bird nest in your reel.

When you're just starting out, you want to spend your time catching fish, not fooling around with your reel. That's why spincast reels make an excellent first reel. They're not as complex as a level wind reel and they're easier to master than spinning reels. There's plenty of time for you to practice with a level wind or spinning reel, but for now, keep it simple with a spincast reel.

As for line, the stuff that comes on a Zebco 33 is good to start out with. If you need to replace it, get a good quality 10 pound line like Berkly Trilene or Stren. 10 pound test is good to begin with and will haul the biggest Bass out of the water with a little patience.

Next comes the bait. Again, there's no use in getting complicated here. Just ignore all the boasting and B.S.ing from the marketing material and you'll be fine. For live bait fishing, start by selecting hooks in the 1/0 to 3/0 range. Eagle Claw makes excellent live bait hooks. Get a selection of weights and Balsa bobbers and you're set for live bait fishing. For artificial bait, you only need a few selections. Plastic grubs with curly tails in the colors of forage fish are good choices. I like White, Yellow, Black and Blue or Green. Grab up a silver Johnson spoon and a Rapala swimming minnow and you'll be set. Make sure you look at the rod to see what range of lure weights it's rated for. Don't get lures too heavy for your rod.

And that's all you really need to get started Bass Fishing. This set up should cost you less than a $100 and once you have some experience under your belt, you'll find it's pretty easy to outfish the local Pro's. The commercial fishing companies have made it seem like catching a Bass is nearly impossible unless you're using the latest and greatest gear on the Market. Nothing could be further from the truth. Catching Bass is easy and doesn't take a lot of sophisticated equipment!

Catch Crappie In The Winter Like A Pro

By Randy Wilmeraner

If you haven't tried Winter Crappie fishing, you're missing out on one of the most productive and reliable times to catch this tasty panfish. Finding Crappie during the Winter months is the hard part. But with a fish finder, a little knowledge and some time on your favorite body of water, you can be catching Crappie when other anglers are at home in front of the fireplace.

Once you have discovered the Crappie pattern for your local body of water, you can pretty much count on finding Crappie in the same areas regardless of where you are on the water. For example, if you find them suspended at 15 feet over 50 feet of water on a submerged river channel with brush, you'll likely find then at other areas of the lake suspended at 15 feet of water over deep brush.

In most lakes at this time of year, Crappie can almost always be found hanging around deep brush on submerged river or creek channels. Vertical bluff-type structure, and manmade brushpiles in deep water are also excellent areas to find Winter Crappie.

A good lake or river map showing the bottom details is a must for Winter Crappie fishing. Search for those brushy areas along submerged breaks. Although Crappie normally hold in deep water during the Winter, there are times you can find them shallow. This will usually occur after a few days of warm weather. Crappie are likely to be only a few feet deep over brush or you may find them on the flats relating to structure.

The right tackle will make you or break you for Crappie fishing in the Winter.

Winter Crappie fishing requires you to downsize your tackle. The same tackle you used back in the Summer and Spring will not be as effective in Winter. Light and Ultralight rods in the 6 to 7 foot range, small minnows or 1/32 ounce jigs and four pound test line are the norm. Crappie become sluggish and finicky in the Winter, and they won't chase bait. In fact, they want the bait right in front of their mouth during most of the Winter.

I like using 6 to 7 foot Light to Ultra Light spinning rods with a stiff back. I prefer graphite over fiberglass rods because Crappie bite softly in the Winter. Graphite rods help you feel these soft bites.

When looking for Winter Crappie, my other terminal tackle includes small jigs, spinners and minnows. I use 2 to 4 pound test line. If using minnows, I'll use a #6 Tru Turn gold aberdeen hooks. Jigs or ice fishing spoons should be in the 1/32 and 1/64 ounce area. Crappie don't like large baits during the Winter, I'm not sure why but I've always caught more with small baits than with big baits and heavy line.

Cold Crappie won't chase down bait during the Winter. This means you must put your offering in front of their nose and leave it there. In fact, many times I've had more success by not imparting any motion with my jig. Make it easy for the Crappie to eat your bait. This isn't rocket science, so don't get all technical with your presentation. Just hold it in front of them, they'll bite it!

Visiting the links below will take you to resources about catching Crappie anytime of the year.

Information On Tarpon Fishing Charters

By Bessie Rodgers

More and more deep sea fishermen are turning to the popular sport of tarpon fishing charters. Due to the fact that these marine animals possess no food value they have become a popular part time sport by many who catch and release them in order to make sure that they are not needlessly killed.

This fish is also called a silver king and they are a variety of large game fish that have silvery scales that populate the warm seas. They are believed to be prehistoric sea creatures that date back roughly 125 million years ago. They generally prey and eat smaller fish and crustaceans and during the spring these fish spawn inshore which attracts thousands of fishermen.

These fishermen use light tackle with either live bait or artificial bait. The best live bait to use are crabs, mullet, shrimp and pinfish. Artificial bait like big top water baits, minnow imitations as well as soft plastic baits can also be used.

When participating in this sport the hook should not be made too hard and the line should be left to tighten up on its own or you can just leave the rod in its holder until the fish is stripping line off the reel. The drag should not be too tight or else the fish will break the line. Use a stronger line if the tarpon continues to break it.

It is essential for the fisherman to allow this strong fish some time to run a bit on the line before applying pressure. You need to know how to tie the best knots for this kind of fishing. Try to keep the head up as this stops them from trying to initiate another run.

It is generally felt that these fish should be preserved, hence fishermen practice this method of catching and releasing when it comes to this sport. Using circle hooks and live bait allows for the best release of these creatures as they are unharmed. They should not run for longer than necessary as this can over exhaust them and they should never be lifted completely from the water as this might will them.

This competitive practice has become a majorly loved sport and has evolved into a very big event. There are a number of competitions and events out there where men and women alike try their hand for the big prize. For more information you might want to seek online for websites specializing in this or speak to a deep sea professional.

Key West Tarpon Fishing Is Fishing At Its Best

By Bessie Rodgers

For many fishing enthusiasts, key west tarpon fishing is the best fishing. Anglers love taking casual excursions and joining in the tournaments in the area. The Florida Keys provide tremendous enjoyment and adventure to fishermen and women from around the world. The fish are plentiful and the opportunities for fun abound. Key West is a favorite tarpon fishing destination among avid sportsmen.

The Megalops atlanticus, or tarpon, lives off the western Atlantic coast and in the Gulf of Mexico. These fish have been caught as far north as Nova Scotia and as far south as Brazil. They are known to travel through the Panama Canal, also. During the early spring and summer, the fish migrate through the waters surrounding the Florida Keys. The fish are most abundant during this time. However, key west tarpon fishing is a year round sport. Tarpon prefer water temperatures between 72 and 82 degrees.

The silver king, or tarpon, is a powerful fish with a lot of attitude. It will not be taken aboard without a fight. It has a greenish-blue colored back and both of its sides are bright silver. The silver king has a mouth that is as hard as concrete. It is not easy to hook. Usually, sports fishermen use a heavy spinning rod and reel or fly rod gear when trying to hook this fish.

If hooked by an angler, the fish will leap into the air, spinning and jerking, attempting to free itself. It will fight for its freedom. A mature tarpon can weigh up to 350 pounds and measure up to 100 inches in length. Most measure between four feet and eight feet. Generally, they weigh between 80 pounds and 280 pounds. Silver kings provide a lot of fun and excitement for game fishermen.

The Florida Keys are home to many tournaments throughout the year. The Key West Fishing Tournament (KWFT)begins in March and ends in November. It is an annual, 8.5 month tournament with more than forty species of fish qualifying. There are separate division competitions for men, women and children. A separate Kick Off Tournament is hosted the first weekend. This year, it will be March 11-13.

Although the Megalops atlanticus can reach enormous proportions, it is very bony, without much flesh, and not suitable for eating. Florida regulations require a special permit to kill and keep tarpon. Sportsmen practice the catch and release rule.

Many experienced, area captains offer key west tarpon fishing charters for eager sportsmen and women. Visitors can find plenty of exciting things to do in Key West. Mallory Square at sunset is a famous attraction.

Used Power Pole For Sale In Online Classified Ads

By Mike Relahs

Online classified advertising sites are great if you are looking for a used power pole for sale. Only those who are familiar with sports fishing in shallow water will know that this kind of outboard anchor is one of the most exciting innovations of recent years.

Also labeled dig in or shallow water anchors, power poles work on a simple concept - that an anchor that is mounted on the outside of a boat and operated with a switch that activates a hydraulic system of raising and lowering is much more efficient than using a traditional sort of anchor that you throw overboard and then must pull back in.

Benefits include less wear and tear on your back and a cleaner boat because you will not constantly be bringing in water, sand or mud, or weed from the bottom of the stream or lake bed. No rope to coil or tangle, no anchor on the floor to trip over, and hands free to handle your fishing pole are other bonuses.

One or more electric switches installed in the boat make it quick and easy to drop the pole or raise it, without having to have one or both hands free to handle a traditional anchor. Some models work off a remote control, which can be activated from anywhere in the boat. Designed for boats up to 23 feet long and up to 4500 pounds, these devices make it easy to concentrate on stalking and catching fish.

The whole idea is that once the boat is maneuvered into position, it can be held there by the pole, which can be lowered in seconds with little noise or disturbance of the water which scares away the prey. It is just as quick to raise the anchor when the fish move on and the boat needs to quietly follow.

Created by a computer guru with mechanical engineering talents as well, the original concept of 1998 is constantly being improved. Before you go online to see what is listed in the ads, check the manufacturers sites for the features to be found in different models of shallow water or dig in anchors, which range from four to twelve feet in length. Newer ones even come in designer colors.

It is always nice to get a bargain, and finding a used power pole in the online classifieds can really make the day for a dedicated sports fisherman or woman. For those who like fishing the flats and shallows, these outboard anchors are great time and effort savers.
