Deep Sea Game Fishing

By Owen Jones

Although the terminology "deep sea fishing" seems to refer to marine fishing trips, the term actually applies to any type of fishing in waters wider than a lake. Rivers and ponds can not mean "deep sea fishing" as the water is too shallow in most cases. Open sea fishing is carried out outside coastal waters that is the habitat of lots of the larger fish.

Open sea fishing necessitates a bigger boat for the operation in order to transport the catch and manoeuvre. Such a boat should have enough room for the fishing crew and also for the equipment needed to catch and store these big fish. Such a boat is intended to stand up to strong winds and bad weather at sea and to gain access to the fishing area safely and quickly.

There is a wide range of fish to be caught in deep sea game fishing includes marlins, swordfish, sailfish, large tunas and various types of sharks. There are also smaller species of fish caught at the same time as these larger ones. However, the small ones are not caught on purpose: they are called by-catch or, if caught intentionally, they are meant to be used as bait for the larger fishes.

Open sea fishing became a basic occupation in coastal areas, allowing people to earn their living. Later it became a proper business. California, Nova Scotia, Hawaii, Florida, New Zealand are among the most common locations. A big advantage of those areas is that the possibility of catching big fish along the coasts is triple that of other regions where the various large species live in far deeper waters.

There are several techniques of deep sea game fishing of which the first we should mention is trolling, which is a form of angling performed by drawing a baited line through the water. The bait usually consists of squid or other small fish often used for bait and it is thrown into the sea off the rear of the boat. Deep sea game fishing boats have apiece of equipment called stabilizers or outriggers which enlarge the actual fish-catching area. Another technique is 'chumming' or 'chunking' which requires that large pieces of bait fish be thrown overboard in order to attract the larger. more desired species.

So, as to be expected, deep sea game fishing has reached unparalleled proportions in terms of its extent because of people's demand for large fish in their kitchen or restaurant. These days, various fish food diets have actually become first-class aids to healthy living and many people are giving up red meat for this lite-fat, white kind.

The Most Delicious Fish You Have Probably Never Tasted

By Mark Hester

There are many delicious choices of fish available to the seafood lover today. Salmon, trout, swordfish, tuna, Chilean sea bass -- all have their fanatics. True lovers of everything aquatic will tell you stories of the pleasures to be found in catfish, walleye pike and even blue gills.

This is not even considering the many non-fish choices such as the lobster, shrimp, oysters, clams and mussels and the regional specialties such as turtle, frog legs, conch and crayfish (or crawdads as we know them here in the South were they are almost a religion.)

But even with all of these choices, the fish that many avid lovers of seafood consider to be the best tasting is still practically unknown to the common person.

Wild Striped Bass - America's Most Delicious Fish

Striped bass are found along both coast of North America - but no where else in the world. In fact, they are only native to the east coast. They were introduced to San Francisco Bay in 1886 by sportsmen and now ply the Pacific waters from California to Canada.

Despite ranging from Florida to Newfoundland, the best striped bass fishing grounds awe the Outer Banks off North Carolina, Chesapeake Bay and Long Island Sound.

If Striped Bass Is So Delicious, Why Are They Not More Popular?

Simple reason - They are darn hard work to catch.

Although there are now farmed striped bass, the wild is more desirable and many think tastier, and it still requires getting up early and casting a line, either from a small boat or while standing in the surf of a cold beach.

Furthermore, although laws vary, most states require the caught bass to be at least 34 inches long to keep. This means that the poles, reels, hooks and line must be large and heavy and landing one will be hard and exhausting work.

Although this law also means that if you do manage to land one that is of keeper size, it will weight at least 18 pounds. That's some good eating there.

The Importance Of Choosing The Right Camping Ground

By Owen Jones

When the weather turns warm, the minds of millions of people turn to a camping vacation. Once you have all your camping gear and all your supplies, you will need to select a camping ground. It is safer to camp on a designated camping site than just somewhere in the woods because of the danger presented by wild animals such as bears and stags. If you are going as a family, then you are better off with the bathroom facilities provided on a camping ground as well.

The first thing to decide is where you want to go. Many people go only a few miles down the road from where they live, others choose to go to a favourite destination such as the Pocono Mountains. Regrettably, it is not easy to gauge the quality of a camping site from its telephone number and not all camping grounds are on the Internet yet. Going to a poor camp ground can ruin your camping holiday, so it is worth checking the camping site on line or asking to be sent a brochure.

Another good reason for looking at some advertising material is so that you can judge whether the on site amenities make the camping site good value for money. Again there are no hard and fast rules, some people like to see a different show every night while others prefer to walk about or just sit and talk with neighbours or each other. If you are taking children, there should be something for them to do during the day such as structured nature rambles or and a swimming pool and other sports facilities.

Adult amenities should include fishing rights, boat hire facilities and nature trails and a swimming pool during the day, while at night, any shows that they put on should not be so loud as to spoil the impression of communing with nature for others. Many people leave the cities for a camping holiday in order to escape the noise, if you think like that, then make sure that you choose a camping site that does not cater specifically to younger people who might want to dance and party all night.

In the same vein, if you have a young family and you as a parent want to go to the shows, are there baby sitting facilities available or is there at least a park warden who patrols the camp at night who could look in on your kids every now and then?

Other facilities to look out for are shops, hairdressers and a first aid centre and the cost of using these amenities. Often the camp shops are a lot more expensive than like shops in the local village, but do you really want to be going off site every time you want a loaf of bread or a six pack? Of course, you can take stuff with you but if you are going for a week or two, it is never sufficient and you are sure to forget something. A trip into a near by village every other day while visiting the attractions would be all right though, if there are any villages near by that is.
